The Westa Clip: The Everyday Carry for Your Phone

An update for international backers (and California residents)

Hi everybody. This is mostly an update for international backers (and California residents - see the very last sentence). Please provide your comments below.

Shipping across international borders is a bit more complex and can get expensive for you. I intended to provide a duties pre-paid option, but it's very, very expensive. Instead, the lowest-cost solution for you is to ship with duties unpaid. This means you will be responsible for paying duties plus VAT or GST on receipt. Please see the table below for my latest estimate of costs. I have also added in the duties you might expect - these are just estimates. There can be additional fees for handling and storage at customs. If your country is not listed, comment below and I’ll look up estimated rates for you. I also suggest contacting your local customs agent for more information. Rates from my logistics partner may adjust up or down by the time I ship.

If the costs are too high, I completely understand if you would prefer to cancel your pledge - I'd rather we both know now than have surprise fees for you or returns and rejected shipments for me.  

If you are a non-US backer, please help me by answering the following in comments or a direct message:

1. Are you interested in a duties pre-paid shipping option? This will be DHL Express and will clear customs without additional fees, but it's very expensive for you (usually $65 - $95). This might not be an option, but if there is enough interest, I will try.

2. Please confirm you have read this and are okay with us shipping your clips duties unpaid.

California: Finally, for my California friends, I will need to collect sales tax from you. You will be charged when you pay for shipping. Just a heads-up. All other US backers do not need to pay sales tax.

Secret Upgrade!

Now that we’ve more than doubled our initial goal, we want to tell you about a nice enhancement we made. You could call it a secret stretch-goal. It’s an upgrade for all backers. We’re upgrading all Westa Clips to using a metal insert. It may not look like a lot from the outside, but the real magic is on the inside, where it adds an extra level of smoothness and solid feel. Plus, we think it looks cool. There’s just a little bit that peeks out near the button. Here’s a photo of an upgraded clip.

This is a small, but really awesome upgrade. We hope you’re excited to get your Westa Clip. We’re still on track to get them to you as planned!

We did it! 

The Westa Clip hit its fundraising goal in the first two days. Thank you for your support. What does this mean? It means that the black Westa Clip is going into production. The factory is making one final revision to the molds which we requested last week, then they'll get started on building the first batch of clips.

Reaching the goal isn't the end, though. What we really want to do is hit those stretch goals so that we can offer more colors and maybe even develop more complementary products like car mounts, more sizes, and accessories. The factory requires a high minimum order quantity for each color. Keep following along to see how we do in reaching those goals. And of course, please provide any feedback, questions, or ideas any time.
